Sarah Silvernail, WSU Hall of Fame class member of 2001 will add another accolade to her accomplished WSU volleyball career when she is inducted into the Pac-12 Hall of Honor as part of the 2023 class.

The 2023 class is comprised of all women for the first time in the hall’s history, according to WSU Athletics Twitter.

“The Pac-12 is honored to induct this class of legendary athletes, coaches and administrators into the Hall of Honor,” Pac-12 Commissioner George Kliavkoff said in a press release. “The 12 inductees represented their respective universities at the highest levels of athletic excellence and we are especially proud to recognize this first-ever all-female class as we continue to honor the historic legacy of Title IX.”

Silvernail was active at WSU between 1993–96, which included two years with current head coach Jen Greeny. She was a two-time All-American, 1996 Pacific-10 Conference Athlete of the Year and a three-time All-District 8 selection.

After finishing her career at WSU, she sat atop the university’s record books in career kills (1,848), single-season kills (648) and single-match kills (39).

In 1996, she was named Female Athlete of the Year by both the Greater Spokane Sports Association and the Tacoma News Tribune, in addition to being a finalist for the Seattle P-I’s Star Award, according to WSU Athletics.

Following Silvernail being announced as the representative of WSU in the 2023 class, Greeny tweeted her congratulations to her former teammate.

“What a privilege it was to be Sarah’s teammate for two years. Yeah … she was pretty good! Excited I get to be in Vegas next week to see her induction,” Greeny Tweeted.

Silvernail is one of two volleyball players a part of the induction class, along with UCLA’s Natalie Williams, who played both basketball and volleyball.

Formal induction will take place on Friday during a private ceremony prior to the semifinals of the 2023 Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas. They will also be honored during a special halftime ceremony of the day’s first semifinal matchup, according to WSU Athletics.
