Pullman woman dies in wheelchair accident

The Whitman County coroner has confirmed a woman died from an injury suffered from falling from an unsecure wheelchair at the Pullman Regional Hospital on June 15.

The woman, 96-year-old Frances Irene Winters, was transported in a facility wheelchair van when the wheelchair became unsecure. Winters fell backwards, striking the back of her head and neck, according to a Pullman Police Department news release.

Coroner Peter Martin found the cause of death was a fractured C-spine (C5-6) with spinal cord contusion, according to the release.

The manner of the death was accidental, according to the release.
