The Pullman Greyhounds fell in their football season opener 42-21 against the Lakeland Hawks in Rathdrum, Idaho.

Pullman quarterback Caleb Northcroft had three passing touchdowns on the night, with two of them being hauled in by wide receiver Champ Powaukee.

Experience proved to be paramount for Lakeland as the Hawks had won their first two games of the season before they faced Pullman last night. After being down 14-6 in the second quarter, the Hawks outscored the Greyhounds 36-7 over the remainder of the game. Lakeland is now 3-0 on the season, with Pullman being 0-1.

Northcroft hit Powaukee for a 12-yard score in the first quarter, then in the second, hit Gavin Brown for an eight-yard touchdown. Later in the fourth quarter, Northcroft hit Powaukee for their second touchdown connection on a 93-yard pass play.

Lakeland running back Kage Weil led the charge for the Hawks with a staggering 223 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

The Greyhounds will look to bounce back with their next three games being at home. Next week they will take on cross-state rival Moscow (Idaho) at 7 p.m. next Friday in Pullman.
