The tuition increase will raise rates for full-time resident undergraduate students from $10,976 to $11,305.

The Board of Regents approved a 3% increase in tuition at their meeting in Seattle Friday.

The tuition increase will take effect in the upcoming 2024–25 school year. This increase will apply to both undergraduate and graduate students, according to WSU Insider.

For full-time resident undergraduate students, the annual tuition rate will increase from $10,976 to $11,305, making the total increase $329. Several degree programs will not see this tuition increase, including the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences’ Doctor of Pharmacy program, the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program and the College of Nursing’s Master of Nursing program, according to KREM.

Discussions about tuition rates for the upcoming year began last fall, according to WSU Insider. Leslie Brunelli, executive vice president for finance and administration said tuition rates for resident undergraduates are close to what they were a decade ago.

Tuition and mandatory fees during the 2013–14 school year were $10,874, $102 less than current tuition rates, according to a study created by Western Washington University.

A presentation on fiscal year 2023 showed that operating expenses were on the rise, which included a 7% increase in salary and wage expenses. WSU also expects increased costs as a result of their first-ever contract with Academic Student Employees, finalized on Jan. 17.

The next Board of Regents meeting is scheduled to take place in Tri-Cities March 7-8.
