WSU’s rowing team will now head to Ohio for the Big-10 Invitational from April 17-18.

The newest coaches ranking poll came out and WSU moved up from 19 to 18th. The ‘24 rowing season has been fantastic so far. Rowing has made great strides since the beginning of the season, starting from their match against Oregon State and University of Florida where they finished second out of the three.

The following match was the San Diego Classic with eight teams from the Big 12 Conference, Pac-12 Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), American Athletic Conference (AAC), Big West Conference, and West Coast Conference (WCC). WSU finished out the middle of the pac placing second twice out of the six races they participated in. In the next match vs Gonzaga University, WSU did not have their best out losing almost every race by a decent amount. They did win one race (1v8+) led by Amy Patten.

Most recently WSU was sent an invitation to the Laker Wheeler Invitational. After finishing the afternoon’s (April 26) final race in the first varsity eight with a time of 6:53.353, the Cougs finished first. The Cougs and Duke were fighting it out for first place, entering the second half of the race, the two teams were about even, but towards the end, WSU pulled away and won. In addition to placing fifth and twice in sixth place, the Cougs finished second in the varsity eight race on day two. WSU had an overall good weekend but there were some missteps and nail-biting losses. Wazzu finished ninth out of 18.

The Pac-12 Championship is on May 19, after that, the NCAA starts and goes for three days. If Wazzu qualifies they will have a chance to bring Pullman another award and continue the great year Wazzu athletics has had.

Head coach Jane LaRiviere said the team is getting better after every event and is coming together at the right moment before Championship games. Additionally, she mentioned that even with finals the team is still able to get their practice time in and focus to be able to prepare themselves best.
