Super Bowl LIX is a rematch of Super Bowl LVII: The Kansas City Chiefs are playing the Philadelphia Eagles. Rapper Kendrick Lamar and SZA are set to perform at halftime.

Will Thompson, a freshman finance major, is a sports fan and watches the Super Bowl every year. Thompson is a Seattle Seahawks fan, but because the Seahawks didn’t make the playoffs, he wanted the Super Bowl matchup to be between the Detroit Lions and the Baltimore Ravens. He predicts the Eagles will win by three points and hopes Lamar plays “Not Like Us.”

Jamorri Colson, a senior general studies major and a cornerback on the WSU football team, is rooting for the Eagles but predicts the Chiefs will win 31-28.

Former President Donald Trump plans to make history as the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl. The first Super Bowl was played in 1967 and out of 11 presidential administrations since then, Trump will be the first president to attend.

Forbes predicts this Super Bowl will set a record for sports betting, and some bets are tailored to Trump’s appearance at the game.

There is a bet on who Trump wants to win the game, sparking discourse online about whether it will be mentioned that the Eagles skipped their White House visit after winning Super Bowl LII against the New England Patriots.

Trump has publicly criticized the NFL, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his partner, Taylor Swift.

Super Bowl LIX’s halftime performance

For those unfamiliar with Lamar, he was part of the Super Bowl LVI halftime show with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem and 50 Cent in 2022.

Lamar is a 22-time Grammy Award winner and won five Grammys last weekend for his hit “Not Like Us,” The New York Times reported. In March 2024, Lamar released “Like That,” responding to J. Cole and Drake’s song “First Person Shooter.” Lamar then released multiple songs dissing Drake and fueling online drama.

The feud between Drake and Lamar was a major cultural moment in 2024. “Not Like Us” spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 before returning to the top spot a few weeks later.

In September, Lamar was announced as Super Bowl LIX’s halftime performer, with SZA later named as a guest performer. The two will perform at the 59th Super Bowl before beginning their stadium tour this spring.
