Pullman City Council Member Carla de Lira will not be running for reelection in November, according to a press release.
“After much reflection, I have decided not to seek re-election for Pullman City Council this term. This difficult decision was not made lightly,” de Lira said. “Serving on city council has been one of the most meaningful and rewarding experiences of my life, and I’m so grateful to have served Ward 2 and the entire Pullman community.”
De Lira has served Ward 2 since January 2024. Her term ends at the beginning of 2026, though she does not plan on leaving public service forever.
“I want to emphasize that this is not a goodbye to public service. It’s just a pause to reflect and recalibrate,” she said. “I’m keeping the door open for future opportunities to serve my neighbors.”
Though she is leaving for now, de Lira said she is proud to have brought voices from different backgrounds to city council.
“I had the pleasure of bringing in a diverse range of community members from all walks of life to engage with local government,” she said. “Becoming a council member didn’t feel accessible to me either until I had the opportunity to step into the role.”
De Lira said she is endorsing WSU undergraduate student DiDi Lubash.
“They have the drive and passion to continue and expand on the goals that I originally envisioned,” de Lira said. “DiDi — a queer, nonbinary, nontraditional, undergraduate student at WSU — brings a much-needed background and perspective to our council.”
Lubash is studying women, gender and sexuality studies and digital technology and culture, de Lira said. They previously served as an emergency medical technician and wildland firefighter in Spokane.
Like de Lira, Lubash plans on focusing on food waste and insecurity, housing and transit, de Lira said.
De Lira follows Council Member Megan Guido, who previously announced she will not be running for reelection.
The general election is Nov. 4.
