A Pullman man, 50-year-old Ali Ali, has been released from custody after being arrested for an alleged rape of a child, according to court records. His release came pending an investigation into the matter.
According to Moscow-Pullman Daily News, the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office had three business days to file charges in order to continue holding Ali. However, prosecutors announced Wednesday that no charges had been formally filed.
Prosecutors are holding off on filing charges until the Pullman Police Department concludes their investigation.
The arrest and investigation came after an anonymous party reported the contents of a juvenile female’s diary, which included entries referencing the alleged sexual assault. The journal has since been obtained by investigators.
When interviewed by investigators, the juvenile identified Ali. Investigators then interviewed Ali, who denied the allegations.
Ali was then arrested and booked at the Whitman County Jail on Saturday. Ali was booked on several felonies, including second-degree rape and third-degree child rape, before being released without charges pending an investigation.
