Earlier this week Cougar baseball announced that they have signed junior right-handed pitcher Scott Rienguette from Kansas State University. The Sudbury, Ontario native did not pitch at all for the Wildcats in 2025, nor did he pitch at all in 2024 when he was with Cloud County Community College. His most recent stats are in fact from 2023 with the Cloud County T-Birds.
In nine appearances he struck out 20 batters, gave up four hits, six earned runs, nine walks and one homerun. Through 9 1/3 innings pitched, this brought his ERA up to 5.79.
While this may be his first year as a Coug, Rienguette will find a familiar face in the locker room. Junior short-stop Gavin Roy played for Cloud County Community College alongside Rienguette in 2023 and is also a Sudbury native. Roy’s two years with the T-Birds had him batting a career 0.326 with 121 hits, 64 RBI’s and five homeruns.
After transferring to WSU for the 2025 season Roy started all 54 games of the year. He batted 0.288 with 60 hits, 36 RBI’s and three homeruns. In the field he only committed 11 errors and had a fielding percentage of 0.959.

Rienguette, while not having that much experience at the D1 level, should be a quality arm for the Cougs with room to develop. Plus, with Roy aiding his transition to the clubhouse, he has a leg up in the chemistry building department.
With not one, but two Sudbury kids on the roster, the Cougs are looking to build back strong for 2026.
