Early this week WSU Baseball announced that they signed right-hander and Tucson, Arizona native August Richie from the University of Virginia. With experience at both the JUCO and D1 levels, Richie stands out among the other recent transfers.
The incoming junior back in 2024 made 20 appearances with Pima Community College, three of which were starts. He ended that season allowing 38 hits, 14 earned runs, nine walks, 35 strikeouts, and a 3.67 ERA. This came off 34 1/3 innings pitched.
Flash forward to 2025 in Virginia and the sophomore made two appearances, allowing two hits, one walk, no earned runs, one strikeout and posting a 0.00 ERA through 1 2/3 innings pitched.
Back in his high school days, Richie was ranked 148th overall in the state of Arizona according to Perfect Game. He was also a two way player, being ranked 28th in the state among all shortstops. However, he has since put the bat down in college in order to focus on his production on the mound.

Now on his way to the Palouse, Richie is the fourth member of the Cougar squad from Arizona and joins a bullpen with 11 fellow righties. His ability to start games and come in relief make him a versatile weapon in the Cougar bullpen that they may lean on in 2026.
