George Melvin Harris III has been sentenced to three years in jail for the fatal 2021 shooting of his 23-year-old roommate, Liban Barre.

Harris was convicted of the crime by a Whitman County jury in April. Judge Roger Sandberg sentenced him last Friday to three years in prison, the lowest possible sentence for Harris permitted by Washington State law.

The case is currently on appeal, an opportunity for higher courts to examine the decision of the trial courts.
