Pullman, Wash., will face off against College Station, Texas, as a finalist in Barstool’s ‘Best College Town’ competition.
Having started in September, the competition is a March Madness bracket-style competition that pits colleges across the country against each other, according to a Barstool post from the competition announcement.
Pullman continued to the semifinals, facing Knoxville, Tenn. Barstool Sports hosted a live voting party for the round of four at Valhalla Bar and Grill on Oct. 17.
Live voting for the championship round started on Oct. 20 and is solely on social media this round, according to an Instagram post.
If Pullman wins the championship, a Barstool-paid and hosted party will be thrown in town, according to their Instagram posts.
Turnout at the voting party was extensive, according to attendees. When voting opened, the line was wrapped around the building, according to senior broadcast journalism major Kaia Bonilla.
“It was surreal to have something as big as Barstool at our campus…I feel like WSU doesn’t get taken seriously due to our location, and now with the PAC-12 breakup, we’ve been kinda getting dogged on,” Bonilla said.
Although WSU is a smaller school and town than some of the schools previously faced in the competition, Bonilla feels the atmosphere is unique.
“Cougs have something no other school has,” Bonilla said. “I’m not from Washington and wasn’t raised a coug, but the obsession that cougars have with WSU is what drew me here…We have so much pride in our school and that’s been incredibly apparent throughout this tournament.”
