Chad Whetzel is leading in polls to stay on the Whitman County Commission.
With 52% of the vote, Whetzel is currently ahead of his opponent, Cody Finch.
The Whitman County Board of Commissioners has authority over Whitman County elections, focusing on legislative and executive affairs.Â
In January, Whetzel was appointed to the District 3 position when Michael Largent, the former commissioner, resigned.Â
For the Pullman City Council Ward 1 position, Bryan MacDonald is in the lead with 884 voters compared to John-Mark Mahnkey, who has 782.Â
In the Ward 2 position, Trevor Vance is ahead of DiDi W. Lubash, with 234 votes for Vance and Lubash receiving 122.Â
Finally, in the race for the Ward 3 position, Tawny Szumlas is winning with 394 votes compared to John Cassleman’s 340.Â
Each ward consists of different areas of Pullman, with Ward 1 being the westernmost part, Ward 2 being the farthest north and Ward 3 being the easternmost part. Washington State University is located in Ward 3.
The voter turnout for this election was 26.98%, with about 6,961 ballots being counted despite 24,691 voters being registered in Whitman County.Â
The next ballot count will be on Friday.Â
