Ace Glass scored 40 points in a 100-94 loss to Arizona State on Tuesday. That is the most points in a Maui Invitational game since Gonzaga’s Adam Morrison scored 43 on Michigan State in 2005.
The Cougars found a spark with a new starting lineup that included Glass, but the Cougs could not fend off ASU’s 58 second-half points.
WSU’s defense continues to be David Riley’s weakness. Last year, the Cougars gave up 78.6 points per game on average and in the first seven games this year, the average is up to 82.7 points per game.
ASU is known for its come-from-behind wins. Three of the Sun Devils’ six wins this season were comeback victories in the second half.
ASU will meet up with USC for the Maui Invitational title game Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
WSU plays Seton Hall in the third-place game at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
Maryland transfer Rodney Rice left during USC’s semifinal matchup against Seton Hall with a right shoulder injury. Rice leads the Trojans in scoring and USC has not announced an injury update on his status for tomorrow’s title game.
In the consolation semifinals, the Wolfpack bounced back from a disappointing opening round to beat Boise State, 81-70.
No. 23 NC State will play Texas for fifth place, while Boise State hopes to get a win against Chaminade in the seventh-place game.
