Sieg Snapp, a 1983 Washington State University graduate, was selected as the next associate dean of research for WSU’s College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences.
Snapp’s journey home to the Palouse spans more miles than most Cougar alumni. She will leave her current position as global director of the Sustainable Agrifood Systems Program at CIMMYT, an international research organization based in Mexico, to begin her tenure as CAHNRS associate dean for research on April 1.
Cashup Davis Family Endowed Dean of CAHNRS Raj Khosla announced Snapp’s selection following a nationwide search.
“Dr. Snapp is an acclaimed scientist who knows how to effectively lead teams of researchers,” Khosla said in an interview with WSU Insider. “I’m excited to see her work closely with faculty and industry as she guides the research happening in our college to new heights of innovation and real-world impact, advancing WSU’s land-grant mission and solutions that matter.”
During her time with CIMMYT, Snapp worked to improve the sustainability and profitability of cropping systems. In a statement to The Evergreen, she expressed her excitement about meeting with scientists across CAHNRS.
“As I join Raj Khosla’s leadership team, I really look forward to meeting with scientists from across CAHNRS, from agriculture and food systems to economics, human development and apparel, merchandising and design,” Snapp said. “Meeting with industry leaders in every field CAHNRS touches is an exciting aspect of this position.”
Snapp said learning about local research priorities will be central to her approach as associate dean.
“WSU is a leader in translational research that addresses real-world challenges, and learning about the research priorities of industry and communities around Washington state will be key,” she said.
