This February, WSU students will step into the spotlight as SEB hosts its annual Cougs Got Talent showcase.
This event, led by Hussain Akoum, spotlight director for SEB, will allow students to showcase their talents in front of a live audience.
From musical performances to basket weaving under water, Cougs Got Talent highlights a wide range of abilities. There is no limitation to what the talent can be in order to audition. Last year, three musical acts took the top spots, but a unique performance could sweep the competition.
SEB has hosted this event for 5 years and it continues to take the spotlight for student engagement each year.
“The viewers of this event are what make it absolutely electric and help make it a memorable experience, not just for the judges and contestants, but everyone,” said Akoum.
Akoum also emphasized how this event helps students build confidence on stage and get their name out there.
This year’s showcase will feature previous staff and student winners as the panel of judges.
The sign-up process begins online, where prospective performers or emcees can provide their general information and the day they would like to audition, Feb. 11 or Feb. 18.
From there, auditionees will perform a 5-minute slot in front of the panel, who will choose 10-12 people to proceed to the final competition. There will be first, second and third-place winners, all of which will receive a cash prize.
“Anyone who participates will, of course, benefit from the exposure, showing their talent to the entirety of the university,” said Akoum.
While SEB hopes to fill the auditorium this year, the real way of measuring the success of the event is just to see if people are enjoying it and are having fun on and off the stage.
“The Student Entertainment Board is all about making campus a more interesting place. It’s our goal to put smiles on students’ faces,” Akoum said.
This event is open to all WSU students. So, whether you plan to participate, support a friend or just enjoy a good performance, mark it down in your calendar.
