Former WSU catcher Will Cresswell will compete in the World Baseball Classic for Team Great Britain.
The full WBC rosters were announced last week, and Cresswell is one of two catchers competing for Great Britain, alongside former Seattle Mariner first-round draft pick Harry Ford.
Cresswell appeared in 132 games as a Cougar over his four-year collegiate career. He hit .249 as a Coug, with 11 career home runs, 10 career doubles, and 66 career RBI. He was a mainstay in WSU’s lineup and went on to be drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 18th round of the 2025 MLB draft last June.
Cresswell is the first Cougar to compete in the WBC. Although he was born and raised in Auburn, Washington, Cresswell is competing for Great Britain, likely due to having a family tie. Anyone with parents born in the United Kingdom, or anyone eligible for UK citizenship, is allowed to compete for Great Britain in the WBC. Only two players on Great Britain’s team were born in the United Kingdom. The rest are all from either the United States or the Bahamas.
