With spring semester in full swing and midterms slowly creeping up, many are feeling pale, cold and overall exhausted and burnt out from this academic year.
Some of us, especially those from Western Washington, had a little break this past weekend and were able to go home for the longer weekend, thanks to President’s Day.
A nice relaxing weekend home with family is something I feel like we all needed to reset our week and take a little break from the typical Pullman routine.
Coming back home from the west side, the Snoqualmie pass was clear and the skies were blue. It was a weird tease of sunshine that felt like Pullman would be sunnier. But as soon as I got to Pullman, there was gross rainy weather I was not expecting nor looking forward to.
After unpacking, I looked out the window and realized it was snowing. It came out of nowhere. As a kid I loved snow but now it is more of an inconvenience, especially since here in Pullman I pretty much walk everywhere.
However, with this snowy weather, students can start taking the trays at the dining hall and sled down Thompson Flats for a hit of adrenaline. Although it seems ridiculous, it is definitely a core Coug memory.
As the weather starts to get colder, the chance of snowfall is very high and it has been snowing all week. Just great for this peak of winter depression.
Snow days could be one thing to look forward to if you want to sled, or maybe even skip going to class. Of course it would only be my luck if anything.
Something to really look forward to despite it all is the upcoming spring break that will hopefully be filled with sunshine.
Whether that is going home to get a break from school stress or plans such as potential internships, family vacations or even planned trips with some friends, this break is definitely something worth counting down for.
Spring break is only about four weeks away and may sound like a breather for most students, including me.
With the sound of spring in the air it leaves hopefully more sunny days for the Palouse and even many more outdoor activities, especially since the days will be longer.
The WSU baseball team has home games soon at the Bailey-Brayton field, opening up on March 20 against Grand Canyon University, and what’s a better way to celebrate spring than a game and a hot dog?
The Moscow Farmers Market will be opening up again, giving any students staying over the summer something to look forward to doing on Saturday mornings again.
The Moscow Farmers Market is every Saturday, May through October from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Downtown Moscow.
Greek life formals are also coming up which gives students a chance to dress their best to impress while having the sun shining on their face.
If you are not already in Greek life and want to join, the continuous bidding process appears to be still happening which gives everyone a chance to reach out.
To reach out to any Greek life chapters follow the WSU Panhellenic and WSU Interfraternity Council on Instagram @wsupanhellenic and @wsuifc.
Around this time, we are all feeling a bit weary and over winter. But between sledding T-flatts, snowy views, future spring break plans and sunnier days on the Palouse, there is still plenty to look forward to.
Warmer days are coming, and the 2025-2026 academic year is slowly coming closer to its end.
