Isaac Andrade, 25, and Erick Leal, 27, are scheduled for release later this month after completing their sentences for two separate, unrelated rape convictions. Both Andrade and Leal were previously enrolled at WSU.
Andrade, who is scheduled for goodtime release on March 13, was convicted of rape 3rd degree in May 2025. Judge Roger Sandberg later sentenced Andrade to the maximum of one year in jail on July 18, 2025.
According to Jane Doe, Andrade raped her after the two met at a party where she had become intoxicated. Jane Doe reportedly went home with Andrade but rejected his advances.
Andrade was convicted with the corroboration of a medical report.
Once Andrade is released, he will be placed on probation for one year and required to register as a sex offender for 10 years. He was also ordered to pay restitution.
Leal, who is scheduled for goodtime release on March 20, was originally charged with rape 2nd degree, but was ultimately convicted on rape 3rd degree in June 2025 after his charges were reduced. Judge Sandberg later sentenced Leal to the maximum of one year in jail on July 25, 2025.
Jane Doe told police Leal raped her in his apartment after she had become intoxicated and passed out. According to court documents, the victim said she woke up with Leal’s hands around her throat, noting she thought he was going to kill her.
Like Andrade, Leal will be required to register as a sex offender for 10 years. Jane Doe was also granted a 5-year protection order against Leal.
According to Tessa Scholl, a senior deputy prosecutor and the lead attorney for the prosecution, these one-year sentences and 10-year registry requirements are the maximum allowed under Washington State’s sentencing guidelines.
The sentencing guidelines establish a minimum sentence of six months and a maximum sentence of one year for nonviolent sex crimes, a class C felony, for those without previous felony convictions. Due to their sentencing class and calculated offender level, neither Andrade nor Leal will have to register as sex offenders for life.
