Jon Haarlow was selected to be Washington State University’s 16th Athletic Director by WSU President Elizabeth Cantwell this morning. He served as the interim AD for 146 days after Anne McCoy was fired Nov. 12, 2025.
“My family and I could not be more thrilled to remain home here in Pullman and continue to serve the Cougar community,” Haarlow said in an article published on the official WSU Athletics website. “It is truly an honor to lead such an outstanding group of student-athletes, coaches, and staff—one I do not take lightly.”
Haarlow is now the third official WSU AD in the past three years. Current University of Washington AD Patrick Chun led Cougar Athletics until March 2024. McCoy then succeeded Chun as the official WSU athletic director in June 2024. After McCoy was fired last November, Haarlow is now officially the next AD.
Since being the interim and now official AD, Haarlow has helped hire new head football and soccer coaches Kirby Moore and Chris Citowicki. He also planned the $3.4 million renovation of football’s locker room set to take place this summer and generate over $10 million for the Football Fan Experience Project at WSU.
Haarlow has been working at WSU since 2021, when he started his Cougar career as the senior associate athletic director and chief financial officer for WSU Athletics. In 2022, he continued working at WSU as the assistant vice president for business and financial services. He remained in that position before eventually returning to WSU Athletics as the assistant vice president and senior deputy athletic director/chief operating officer in July 2024.
He worked in the athletic departments at Lamar University and Abilene Christian University before coming to the Palouse.
His introductory press conference will be at 11 a.m. April 20 in the Alger Family Club Room at Gesa Field.
