The city of Pullman is receiving national recognition this week after being named a finalist for the title of “America’s Favorite Small Town.”
In honor of the United States’ 250th anniversary, Parade magazine released a finalist list of 40 small towns across the country competing for the title.
The magazine describes Pullman as a “charming college town known for its vibrant energy and scenic beauty.”
Cougar Country pride came front and center as a campaign of online community voting helped the Palouse city land in the top 40. Visit Pullman spent the last few weeks promoting the vote on Facebook.
“Family is everything,” Visit Pullman stated in a Facebook post. “Thank you to our Pullman family for voting daily and helping our town become a national finalist for the ‘America’s Favorite Small Towns’ competition.”
According to Parade magazine, the winner will receive “Favorite Small Town” branding, along with a citywide Fourth of July celebration that may include national media coverage, giveaways and special appearances.
This past fall, Pullman made a deep run in the Barstool Sports “Best College Town” tournament, running the table in a 64-town bracket before falling short in the championship round of voting to College Station, Texas.
Pullman city officials and residents alike hope to finish the job and claim the title this time around. Pullman will appear in the May edition of Parade magazine. Event organizers said regional winners will be announced June 1 and the national winner will be announced June 12.
