WSU’s annual Re-Coug-aissance faire was held from 2 to 7 p.m. on April 16, upstairs in the CUB with a live petting zoo outside on the Terrell Library lawn. The event featured an array of sellers, art and live performances.
The event was hosted by the Student Entertainment Board, and was originally planned to be completely outdoors, but due to weather, sellers and performers had to be moved inside.
Registered student organizations or individuals had the opportunity to sell their crafts and homemade goods upstairs in the Junior Ballroom.
Some of the items being sold include handmade jewelry, original artwork, leather goods, keychains and much more. Additionally, they sold tacos, Mexican treats and other snacks.
The senior ballroom was packed with students hoping to catch a glimpse of one of the Seattle Knights performances. The Seattle Knights are part of the Pacific Northwest premier sword fighting theatrical group. They performed two shows for the students, one at 4 p.m. and the other at 6 p.m.
The senior ballroom also housed free caricatures drawings, face painting and henna for students.
The fair also included live entertainment, highlighted by performer Brad Byers. Byers is known for his appearances on “America’s Got Talent” where he proved exceptional at his sword swallowing act as well as other extreme acts. The auditorium was packed with students who could not look away from his exhilarating performance.
Outside on the Terrell Library lawn there was a live petting zoo. The zoo featured pigs, goats, a llama, a donkey, several chickens and several others. Visitors could pay a small amount to get a cup and feed the animals carrots and lettuce or grain.
In addition to the live performance and animals, organizers also decided this year to include an indoor screening of “The Lord of the Rings” in the lair of the CUB . This is a new element added this year to boost student engagement.
The Re-Coug-aissance Fair is an annual event held during the spring semester that is free and open to all students as well as community members to come and enjoy a small blast from the past.
