For the fourth time this season, a Washington State freshman has taken home Mountain West Freshman of the Week.
Outfielder Trevor Smith adds his name to the list after a week where he batted .529, scored four RBIs and recorded eight runs. Smith recorded multi-hit performances in three out of four games this past week.
His best performance came in game three against Air Force where Smith recorded three hits, two RBIs and two runs in a 10-9 loss for WSU.
After a hot start to the season, the California native dealt with a hamstring injury that sidelined him from the middle of March to the beginning of April. Currently, Smith is on a nine-game hit streak where he’s tallied seven RBIs over that stretch.
Smith has been an extremely productive player, totaling 45 hits, 23 RBIs and 12 doubles in his first collegiate season. Smith looks to be a pillar in the outfield for seasons to come for the Cougs.
As for fielding, Smith has made a name for himself in making highlight reel catches in center field. The young outfielder has only recorded two errors in 41 games played this season.
Smith will need to keep up his success next week as the Cougs get set to play in the Mountain West Baseball Championship.
