After a hot week at the plate, senior shortstop Gavin Roy was honored with Mountain West Player of the Week. This marks the first time this season that a Coug has taken home the player of the week honor.
This past week, Roy went 9-for-14 with two doubles, a triple, six RBIs and seven runs to lead the Cougs to their sixth-straight series win. Over this four-game stretch, WSU offensively scored 39 runs against Gonzaga and Air Force. Strong performances this week allowed the Cougs to jump past Air Force for second place in the MWC.
The Cougar shortstop started the season slow, going 2-for-18 in the first five games. Since that start, Roy has caught fire tallying 67 hits, 34 RBIs and 27 walks on the season. He ranks top-10 in the MWC in batting average (.364), on-base percentage (.470) and hits.
His highlight performance was a 3-for-3 outing with two walks, two runs, one RBI and a double in game two against Air Force.
Fielding-wise, Roy has been shut down at shortstop, recording 21 consecutive games without an error. Roy struggled in the first half of the season, but has been lights out in the past month for WSU.
The Cougs will need Roy to continue his hot streak next week as they get set to compete in the 2026 Mountain West Baseball Championship.
