It was announced on Wednesday May 6 that WSU hockey has picked up yet another offseason asset. Junsang Park, the 20-year old defenseman from Seoul, South Korea, will be packing his bags and heading to the Palouse for this coming season on the ice.
Park, also known as “Johnny Park”, joins the Cougs from New York where he played for the New York Apple Core, a team in the Eastern Hockey League. Before that, he spent some time in Utah with the Iron County Yeti who compete in the USPHL. While in Utah, Park posted a career high 25 points off eight goals and 15 assists during the 2024-25 season.
Before that, Park bounced around a variety of different USPHL teams. His stops included teams in Texas, Minnesota, Canada and even Russia. From 2020 to 2022, Park played in St. Petersburg, Russia during his U16, U17 and U18 seasons.
He may have only tallied 10 points in his three seasons in Russia, but the experience that he brings is undeniable. As a multi-tool defenseman with an international repertoire, Park may be the Coug’s secret weapon from the blue line in 2026 and 2027.
