WSU volleyball announced the hiring of new Associate Head Coach Jeff Ross Tuesday. He takes the role Jason Ruppelt held last season after Ruppelt moved to Texas this offseason.
Ross was head coach at Douglas College for the past 10 seasons, while simultaneously being an assistant coach at the University of British Columbia. He started coaching at UBC in 2014.
At Douglas College, Ross led the Royals to a 122-69 overall record and helped the program win two PACWEST championships. He was a three-time PACWEST Coach of the Year and won the California Collegiate Athletic Association Coach of the Year award during the 2021-2022 season.
Ross leaves the program following its worst two seasons in a row. The Royals went 7-13 in each of the last two seasons. Before then, the team’s worst record under Ross had been 13-7, which the program achieved in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 seasons.
In his time at UBC, Ross helped guide the Thunderbirds to a 247-119 overall record, winning one Canada West and four U SPORTS championships. There, he was the assistant coach to Doug Reimer, who has been the program’s most successful coach ever.
Reimer, who remains head coach, has a 735-270 overall record while coaching at UBC, alongside three Canada West and two U SPORTS Coach of the Year titles. Reimer won six U SPORTS and five Canada West championships before Ross arrived.
“Jeff brings a tremendous combination of experience, confidence, and vision to our program,” WSU Head Coach Korey Schroeder said in a statement released on WSU Athletics website. “His ability to lead his own program, develop athletes, and sustain success over time speaks to both his leadership and his understanding of what it takes to build a strong team culture.”
Ross also helped coach Team Canada in 2019 and was an assistant for the program’s U21 team during the summer of 2025. He was named Volleyball Canada NEXT GEN Assistant Coach during the summer of 2021.
He completes WSU volleyball’s coaching staff after two coaches departed over the offseason. The only one to stay with Schroeder was Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Cassie Krieger. Alongside Ross, Schroeder hired assistant coach Keith Saito in March.
