ASWSU senators and executives will now be required to go to to Campus Connect training, student leaders announced at a meeting Wednesday.

Campus Connect is a best practice program for the Suicide Prevention Resource Center and helps participants recognize warning signs and risk factors for suicide.

In a separate interview with The Daily Evergreen, ASWSU President Savannah Rogers said the executives wanted to be knowledgeable about the programs students are taking.

“We’ve decided as an executive staff we’d like it to be mandatory,” Rogers said. “How can we advocate for a program if we haven’t gone through them?”

The current program is filled with executives and senators, but in the future student leaders hope to expand it to ASWSU cabinet members.
