Pullman Police arrested 22-year-old Gerald Haugen for allegedly exchanging text messages of a sexual nature with a local 14-year-old girl.

Officers arrested Haugen in the early morning hours Sunday, Pullman PD Cmdr. Chris Tennant said.

Police originally received a tip from a concerned parent about Haugen allegedly supplying the minor with drugs and were concerned over why a 22-year-old was texting a teenage girl, Tennant said. While they did not find probable cause to believe Haugen was supplying her with drugs, investigators determined they were exchanging inappropriate texts.

“We investigated and we found no probable cause on the drug allegation,” Tennant said. “However we did determine there were inappropriate text messages between the male and female that were sexual in nature and inappropriate.”

Haugen was taken to Whitman County Jail and booked on charges of communicating with a minor for an immoral purpose, a class C felony, Tennant said. There has been no word on whether Haugen is still in jail or if he has been granted bail.
