WSU broadcaster Bob Robertson who is famous for his closing broadcast signature, “Always be a good sport, be a good sport all ways,” announced his retirement today, according to a WSU news release.

“I’ve now asked the athletic department at Washington State University to list me as a retired, former sportscaster for the Cougars,” Robertson said in the release. “It is a matter of getting old is what it is … I’m not going to go away. I like Washington State people and the school itself too much to do that. But I am going to be on the retired list, starting immediately.”

The 89-year-old was the voice of a total of 589 Cougar sports games over his 52 year career. He was named the Washington Sportscaster of the Year 12 times and in 2009 the radio booth in Martin Stadium was the renamed the Bob Robertson Broadcast Suite in his honor.
