New gender-neutral locker room to open in SRC next semester

Construction is underway on a gender-neutral locker room for the Student Recreation Center, and the project is scheduled for completion in mid-August.

The $466,000 locker room, funded through University Recreation, will replace a gender-neutral facility built when the SRC was constructed. Project Manager Jason Baerlocher said the current locker room does not have pool access, one of the main reasons for the addition.

It also accommodates just one person at a time, Baerlocher said, meaning people could have to wait to retrieve items from their locker if someone else is in the room. The new locker room will include a common area to fix this problem.

Baerlocher said they took storage space and a couple offices near the pool to accommodate the new locker room. The old locker room will be repurposed, though there is no specific plan for it yet.

WSU opened a gender-neutral locker room earlier this semester in the Chinook Student Center.
