An apparent pipe bomb was discovered at the Pullman City Playfields around 8 a.m. Sunday morning, according to a press release by the Pullman Police Department.

“Officers located what appeared to be a ‘pipe bomb’ like device placed next to electrical panels on the west side of the Playfields adjacent to a walking and bike path,” according to the report.

Evidence found at the scene showed an attempt to light the fuse, according to the press release.

After securing the area, Pullman officers called in the Spokane Explosive Disposal Unit, which arrived at 10:10 a.m. The device was rendered safe shortly thereafter, according to the report.

The device will be sent to the crime lab for further examination, according to the report.
