Provost Dan Bernardo said at the Faculty Senate meeting on Thursday that the current average SAT score of newly admitted students bumped WSU up 150 spots in the World News college rankings.

This comes after the average SAT score of 1030 a few years ago moved WSU back 250 spots, Bernardo said. The average is now 1065.

“We did not admit 500 students this year who would have been admitted the year before,” he said.

Bernardo said acceptance is going to be more selective to further improve rankings. He also encouraged faculty to get more involved with the recruiting process.

“The key to recruiting these people is faculty,” Bernardo said.

Though the SAT is still a major factor for admissions, applicants’ high school GPA will remain the primary point, he said.
