Letter from the Editor: I have an Opinion on Opinions

A message from your 2022 opinion editor

COURTESY OF KESTRA ENGSTROM

From my family to yours, thank you for helping us be the engineers of history.

KESTRA ENGSTROM, Managing editor

I have a lot of opinions.

That’s why I started here in the first place. That’s why I’m staying on as your Daily Evergreen opinion editor for another semester.

Of course, I didn’t apply for this job to just spit out my opinions all day! Who cares if I think that capitalism sucks and Rachel should pick Tino on “The Bachelorette”?! That’s for my boyfriend to deal with, not you.

There is a saying that writers are the engineers of history (I just said it). However, engineers can’t just come up with stuff. They need to research, and talk to people, and gain knowledge. Only then can they engineer history.

That is why I want to hear from you this semester.

I want to write what is relevant to our students and our community. My own experiences and interests are only a tiny sliver of society, a blip in the huge span of human history, but together we are experiencing history.

What is your history? What do you want to remember about the here and now? I am your opinion editor, and with your knowledge, communication and lived experiences, we can make this our newspaper. We can work together to engineer history.

I can be contacted via email at [email protected] anytime. Please never hesitate, readers, to reach out with your ideas and experiences so that the Daily Evergreen can help make your voice and your history heard.

I cannot wait to serve you this semester.

Sincerely,

Kestra Engstrom, your Fall 2022 opinion editor
