The Whitman County Library is having its Food for Fines drive until Feb. 28.

People can visit any of the library’s 14 branches and donate during each branch’s open hours.

People with overdue library fines can donate to the drive in exchange for up to $10 in fine forgiveness.

One unopened and unexpired donated item equals at least $1 in fine forgiveness, according to Whitman County Library’s website. People can donate food cans, food boxes, household paper products and toiletry items.

The donations each branch collects will be given to food banks located near each branch’s community.

People without library fines can also make donations. These donations go toward someone who does have a library fine and help them decrease their fine.

If a person’s fine has gone to collection, fine forgiveness cannot be applied.
