The Whitman County Lacrosse Library is hosting a pumpkin painting event from 5–6 p.m. Sunday. The event is just one of multiple monthly events the library hosts for community members.

Ana Bennett, Whitman County Library Lacrosse Branch manager, said for October, she wanted to do something Halloween-themed, so she decided on pumpkin painting for the Lacrosse and Whitman County areas.

“It’s for the whole community,” Bennett said. “It’s open to everyone of every age, but I feel like a lot of the kids are really going to enjoy it more.”

Bennett received pumpkins from someone who had an abundance of pumpkins, said Catalina Flores, Whitman County Library public services manager.

Bennett said the pumpkin painting event will bring the community in to do a fun community together and she looks forward to meeting community members.

“I’m fairly new to Lacrosse, my husband’s family lives here and we just moved here in May, and I was a stay-at-home mom, and I was feeling like I needed to contribute,” she said. “But I’m excited to meet people from the community and get to know everyone and bring awareness to the library.”

Events like the pumpkin painting event are beneficial because they give community members something to do with the local library, Flores said. She likes to think of libraries as the community hub and as a place for people to have a home away from home.

“We’re the ones who like to give back to our communities and for them to have a second place to come in and do education, job searches or fun social activities,” Flores said. “It gives our community something to do.”

People can sign up for the pumpkin painting by messaging Bennett on Facebook or calling the library directly at 509-549-3770.
