Angel Johnson is a senior running back who transferred to WSU from South Dakota State University.
Johnson spent four years at SDSU and was their lead back in 2024. He redshirted in 2021, playing in just two games, in which he amassed 66 yards.
The next season in 2022, Johnson played in all 13 games, mostly on special teams and as a backup running back. He scored his first collegiate touchdown against Butler in the Beef Bowl.
Johnson saw more playing time in his sophomore season. He rushed for 381 yards and five touchdowns while averaging 8.9 yards per attempt. His highlight included an 80-yard touchdown against Mercer.
In 2024, Johnson continued to break out of his shell, rushing for 646 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught a receiving touchdown, managing 15 receptions for 181 yards. Johnson continued to be a high-yardage rusher, going for 7.1 yards per attempt.
Before committing to WSU and following his head coach, Jimmy Rogers, Johnson reportedly drew interest from the University of Tennessee.
