Matt Durrance is a redshirt senior safety who transferred to WSU in 2025 from South Dakota State University.
Durrance began his college career in 2021 with the SDSU Jackrabbits. He played in three games but ultimately utilized a redshirt to extend his career.
The next season, Durrance played 15 games between safety and special teams. He caught an interception against Missouri State and won Special Teams Player of the Week after the Jackrabbits’ win over Delaware.
He again played all 15 games in his sophomore season in 2023. He totalled 25 tackles and scored his first touchdown in a punt block return.
Durrance’s best season with SDSU came in 2024. He secured 63 tackles in 15 games, while also securing three interceptions, a recovered fumble and four passes defended.
Durrance followed his former head coach Jimmy Rogers from SDSU to WSU in 2025, and is expected to play a significant role in the Cougar defense in the upcoming season.
