A portrait of former WSU President Kirk Schulz will be revealed next Monday at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.
The portrait was commissioned to Seattle artist Grace Flott for $55,000. The commission was funded entirely through donors, according to WSU spokesperson Pam Scott. Flott painted former Governor Jay Inslee’s official portrait.
Jeanne Weiler, Director of WSU Pullman Community and Public Affairs, said in March the portrait would look different from the typical portrait.
“I think we’re going to try to strike a balance maybe between that traditional look of a presidential portrait, but maybe incorporate some creativity,” Weiler said.
The portrait was commissioned in March, with the artist being selected by a committee of WSU faculty and staff, including Department of Art chair Squeak Meisel and Schnitzer Museum of Art Executive Director Ryan Hardesty.
