The pool was closed last summer after broken glass was discovered near the pool. With ongoing drought conditions at the time, the City also decided not to refill the pool for the remainder of the year.
The indoor pool facility, now the Schweitzer Wellbeing Center, is no longer operated by the City of Pullman or Parks and Recreation. The facility, formerly the Pullman Aquatic and Fitness Center, opened in 2000 with a financial gift of $2.5 million from Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, later being purchased by SEL in 2025.
SEL offered to buy the facility for $1.2 million from the Pullman School District, which was struggling financial to maintain the facility. Annual expenses reached roughly $100,000, according to Superintendent Dr. Bob Maxwell.
The facility is currently closed for major renovations. SEL expects to reopen the facility in October 2026.
