A Tier: The Real Deal
- Denver Broncos (3-2) +1
The Denver Broncos stunned the league on Saturday, pulling off the upset victory in Philly against the defending champs. Despite this team’s early season struggles to replicate last season’s wonders, it’s clear the Sean Peyton lead Broncos still got it.
Bo Nix has had a quiet start to the season, with 114 completions on 1,103 yards on the air with eight touchdowns and four interceptions. On the other hand, it has been Nix’s surrounding cast that has really pushed this team to their full potential. Running back J.K. Dobbins and receiver Courtland Sutton have been focal points in this Denver offense. Dobbins has 402 yards on 77 carries and four touchdowns through the first five games, while Sutton has 26 catches for 365 yards on three touchdowns.
Yet it’s not the offensive side of the ball that stands out for the Broncos. This defense has grown to be arguably the best in the league. Former defensive player of the year Pat Surtain II has continued to dominate in the secondary with four pass break ups and fifteen receptions allowed. Linebacker Nik Bonitto looks to be a potential front runner for 2025 defensive player of the year, leading the league in sacks with seven over five games, with two and a half of those sacks coming against the Eagles in week 5.
Despite a 3-2 record, this team looks to have the firepower to make it a long way this season, and potentially win their division, which is why they enter my top 10 this week.
- Los Angeles Rams (3-2) -4
After losing in heartbreaking fashion to a division rival’s backup offense, there is a lot to clean up for this Rams roster.
Due to countless mistakes on and off the field, the Rams fell to 3-2 following Thursday night football. Sean McVay’s decision to run the ball with the game on the line when you have an MVP contender at quarterback was questionable, as well as Kyren Williams costly fumble late in the game to give the 49ers the ball back. This defense also had a rough game, letting up 342 passing yards and two touchdowns in the air, with Kendrick Bourne being the primary receiver.
Yet even with rough losses to good teams in the 49ers and Eagles, there’s no denying this team is still a true contender. Matthew Stafford is playing his best football ever at the ripe age of 37, with 11 touchdowns on two interceptions, it’s safe to say the Rams quarterback looks like a potential MVP candidate. Wide receiver Puka Nacua is off to a legendary start to the year as well, standing out as the clear best wide receiver in the game, and offensive player of the year front runner. Nacua has 52 receptions on 588 yards and two touchdowns. The young defensive core has shined as well, young pass rush duo Byron Young and Jared Verse have shined this season, combining for 39 tackles and 7 sacks.
Even with early season mistakes, this roster is too talented to not make waves through the league, and a solid playoff push this season.
- San Francisco 49ers (4-1) +7
The Niners have begun their season with a Kyle Shanahan master class at head coach. Shanahan has somehow managed to lead this team to 4-1, despite being down star defensive end Nick Bosa, his million-dollar quarterback Brock Purdy, and almost his entire pass catching core with the likes of George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk.
Even with this rough start to the season, the Mac Jones lead 49ers team has out done just about every single one of their opponents. Jones has surprisingly put up incredible stats despite only playing three games this season and looks better than Purdy over these first five weeks. Jones has 905 passing yards on six touchdowns and one interception over three games, which is more passing yards than Cam Ward and Jalen Hurts despite playing two less games than them.
Jones isn’t the only one to fill in and impress. Receiver Kendrick Bourne and tight end Jake Tonges have exceeded their backup role when filling in, Bourne had a monster game this past Thursday with ten receptions on 142 yards, filling in for the likes of Brandon Aiyuk, Ricky Pearsall, and Juan Jennings, who were all sidelined. Tonges has also proven himself as a solid tight end two, racking up 19 receptions on 166 yards and three touchdowns after filling in for George Kittle following a week one injury.
Even with all the backup talent flashing, when this team is healthy, they are even more dangerous than now. If Shanahan and his 53-man roster can continue this performance week in and week out, the Niners will be a hard team to take down.
- Washington Commanders (3-2) +6
After a two-week injury hiatus, Jayden Daniels came back and reminded the league just how good he is at football.
Daniels came back against the Chargers, who looked like possibly the most dominant team in the league, and picked them apart in the Commanders 27-10 win. Jayden had 15 completions on 26 attempts and 231 yards in the air with one passing touchdown to Deebo Samuel. Seventh round rookie running back of out Arizona Jacory Croskey-Merritt finally had the breakout game that was expected from the young talent, with 14 carries and 111 yards on two touchdowns on the ground. Deebo is also slowly reviving his career in the DMV, as Deebo has 30 receptions for 300 yards and three touchdowns this season.
This defense has also had some players come up big for them this season. 2nd year corner out of Michigan Mike Sainristil has had the secondary on lock this season, with 29 total tackles on three passes defended, and two interceptions. Edge Dorance Armstorng has also come up big for the Commanders, with five sacks on the season, which is tied for second.
There is no doubt the Commanders had a few rough losses this season to the Packers and Falcons, but when this team is healthy, they are a force to be reckoned with.
- Indianapolis Colts (4-1) +2
The Colts bounced back with quite the performance following a loss to the Rams, rolling the Raiders 40-6 at home.
With a chip on their shoulder to prove that they are true contenders, the Colts did just that in their blowout showing vs Pete Carroll’s Raiders. Daniel Jones continued to dominate in this Shane Steichen scheme, throwing 20 completions on 29 attempts and 212 yards for two touchdowns. Jones continued to spread the ball, getting Micheal Pittman Jr. and Tyler Warren both a touchdown in the air against Vegas, and finding Josh downs for six receptions on 54 yards.
Yet this passing game hasn’t been the highlight of this Colts team, it’s been Johnathan Taylor. Taylor has rushed for 480 yards and racked up six touchdowns on the ground on 94 attempts, leading the league in all those categories. Taylor looks like one of the best backs in the league, seemingly looking to replicate his 2021 season, in which he claimed the NFL rushing title, on 1,811 yards and 18 touchdowns. The defense continues to ball out too, as players like edge Laiatu Latu lead this team, with nine total tackles and two interceptions.
The Colts looks great to everyone’s surprise, and it looks like it’s only up from here for Indy.
S Tier: Super Bowl Ready
- Philadelphia Eagles (4-1) -2
After a hot 4-0 start, Philly finally fell, as Denver handed them their first loss of the season, 21-17.
The Eagles have still been a top team this year, despite the hard loss to Sean Peytons Broncos. Hurts has had a nearly flawless season in the air, with 93 completions on 889 yards and seven touchdowns with zero picks. Hurts has also controlled the ground game, with four rushing touchdowns on 182 rushing yards over five games. The pass attack has also slowly started to break out into its old form, as Devonta Snith, A.J. Brown, and Dallas Goedert, Hurts main three targets, combined for six touchdowns in the air.
The defense has been in its same old form as well. Linebacker Zack Baun and rookie linebacker Jihad Campbell have combined for 75 tackles, two interceptions and two sacks. Corner duo Cooper Dejean and Quinyon Mitchell have also continued their year two campaigns well too, locking down the secondary allowing the third least number of yards in the air by opposing teams this season.
Denver came to Philly and proved a point, that anyone has a chance to win a game, but this roster is too talented to be counted out as a super bowl contender, so I won’t.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-1) +3
Sorry Seahawk fans, I’m sure this one hurts. The Bucs came to Lumen Field and truly made their case for why they are one of the league’s best, taking down the Seahawks in a 38-35 thriller.
The Baker Mayfield lead Buccaneers looked the best they had since Brady and Arians were at the helm in 2021. Mayfeild combined for 379 yards on 29 completions and two touchdowns against Seattle. Rachaad White also did a fantastic job filling in for the injured Bucky Irving, with 14 carries on 41 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Tampa seems to have found their future in rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka, as he continued to make his point in rookie of the year against the Hawks. Egbuka had seven receptions on 163 yards and one touchdown with a long 57 yard catch to put the Bucs in the redzone.
This defense has given opponents a battle as well. Nose Tackle Vita Vea and linebacker Lavonte David among those leading the charge for Tampa’s defense. Vea has two sacks and two tackles for loss so far this season, while David has 34 total tackles, one and a half sacks, four tackles for loss, and one interception.
The Buccaneers have had quite the showing this season, and they look like true contenders on both sides of the ball through four weeks.
- Green Bay Packers (2-1-1) +1
Yes, the Packers have come back down to earth these past two weeks with a loss to the Browns and a tie with the Cowboys, but I am not ready to doubt this Packers team at all.
Let’s not forget just how good this Green Bay team is, going into the bye week Jordan Love had 1,000 yards in the air with eight touchdowns and one interception. Josh Jacobs was also having a big first four weeks, with 80 carries on 266 yards and four touchdowns. The passing attack looks deadly as well. Tucker Kraft and Romeo Doubs have both stepped up big this season, with six combined touchdowns.
This defense looked in elite shape as well. The pass rush has been elite with the addition of Micha Parsons, who has two and a half sacks and a tackle for loss this season. Quay Walker and Edgerin Cooper have also started to shine, with a combined 75 tackles and three tackles for loss on half a sack.
Despite two rough weeks before going into the buy, I think many have already forgotten just how good this Packers team is. With Matt Lafleur and Jordan Love at the helm of this team, I don’t think there’s any stopping the Packers when they get going.
- Buffalo Bills (4-1) -1
The Bills dropped a costly one after riding high on 4-0, losing a close game at home to the Patriots 23-20.
Although yes, they did lose this game, I think this game was more a testament to how good the Patriots look, rather than the Bills being bad. Drake Maye looked like a superstar, and Steffon Diggs got his old spark back when facing his former team, yet this Bills team still looked elite. Josh Allen had a night with 22 completions on 253 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. The pass attack still looked elite against the Patriots. Curtis Samuel and Keon Coleman were the best performers in this attack Sunday night, as Samuel and Coleman combined for two touchdowns on 49 yards in the air.
This defense has some things to clean up, especially in the secondary. This defense let up ten receptions and 146 yards to Steffon Diggs alone vs. New England.
The Bills may have dropped a close one to division rivals, but they are still nothing short of the best.
- Detroit Lions (4-1) +1
Wow. The Detroit Lions have been on a tear since their week one loss to the Packers. This past Sunday the Lions dominated against Cincinnati, beating them 37-24, with 21 of the Bengals points coming in garbage time.
This Lions roster has been dominant and looks like the best team in the league over five weeks. Quarterback Jared Goff is on fire with 109 completions on 1,187 yards and twelve touchdowns with two interceptions. Wide receiver Amon Ra St. Brown looks to be having his best year yet, with 35 receptions on 407 yards and six touchdowns in the air, and rookie Issac TeSlaa has also made an unexpected impact for the team, with two touchdowns over five games. The run game has been on fire as well, which was to be expected. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery have been an elite duo on the ground, combining for 635 yards and eight touchdowns.
The defensive side of the ball has been lighting up teams as well. Kirby Joseph has been the main stand out at safety, with three interceptions this season, and is tied at 2nd for most in the league. Aidan Hutchinson has also made an impact since coming back off a season ending injury in 2024. Hutchinson has racked up five sacks and five tackles for losses on twelve total tackles.
This team has been terrorizing their opponents these past four weeks and is on a four-game win streak. I think it’s safe to say the Detroit Lions are the best team in the league.

I like seeing the patriots that high!
