Cougar soccer (5-7-5) fell to the Pepperdine Waves 1-0 on a wet night in Pullman. This is the second straight loss in conference play for the Cougs.
The Cougs honored eight seniors. Keira Fitzgerald, Zora Standifer, Maggie Mace, Brooke Brown, Abigail Siddall, Peyton Price, Jenna Studer and Jordyn Young. Despite a season-ending injury, senior Peyton Price was still able to start one last time. She started the game by collecting the kickoff and sending it out. She was subbed off after. Additionally, Standifer, Brown and Mace played all 90 minutes.

While the seniors were being celebrated, the freshmen were able to make their mark on the night. Freshman Maddie Martin made her Cougar debut and her first career start. She played 76 minutes. Keira Mitchell was all over the field tonight, making tackle after tackle to keep the Cougs in the game. She played the full 90 minutes.
The rain and the wind played a factor. Strong winds were present throughout the game, with rain throughout the first half and on and off during the second half. Despite this, both teams were able to find offense.
The Cougs were knocking on the door all game. While they were unable to find the back of the net, they did come close; multiple shots went just over the crossbar or right into the hands of the goalie.
Pepperdine goalie Jillian Medvecky made some big saves to keep WSU to zero goals. On the other side, Standifer was able to make some big saves to keep the game level. But the Waves were able to find a goal in the 60th minute, giving them a 1-0 lead and the game-winning goal.

A persisting theme of the game was physicality. Neither team was shying away from being aggressive. WSU ended the game with eight fouls and Pepperdine ended the game with nine fouls and two yellow cards.
With this loss, the Cougars are sitting at No. 6 in the West Coast Conference and have two more games to play.
