On Friday, it was announced by Interim Athletic Director Jon Haarlow that Chris Citowicki would be named the eighth head coach of women’s soccer. Citowicki will be following in the footsteps of Todd Shulenberger, who was in Pullman for 11 years and was the winningest coach for the soccer program all time.
Citowicki spent the last eight years at the University of Montana. He found success there, winning the Big Sky Conference nine times, with three straight regular-season titles and a Big Sky tournament win in 2025. Additionally, he has led Montana to four NCAA tournament appearances. He finished his time at Montana with a record of 79-39-32.
“We are extremely excited to have Christ leading our soccer program,” Haarlow said in a statement.
The Cougars’ last tournament appearance was in 2021. In 2025, WSU soccer finished with a record of 7-7-5 and finished No. 7 in the West Coast Conference.
“I have been a fan of the Washington State program for a long time,” Citowicki said in a statement from Athletics. “To have the opportunity to step into that setting and represent WSU and Coug Nation is a huge honor. The family and I cannot wait to move to Pullman and get started!”
This comes in the wake of a new era for Cougar soccer as they will start conference play next season in the revamped Pac-12 conference.
