Every year when the Pro Bowl rosters are announced it becomes evident coaches, players and fans do not see eye to eye in all categories.
This year’s snubs were:
Byron Murphy – Jalen Carter made the Pro Bowl over Murphy who had a better season than Carter, who plays for the Eagles. Time and time again the NFL and the media has downplayed playing for the Seahawks for awards, and Murphy looks like their newest victim. When you compare the stats for Murphy; seven sacks, seven TFLs, 57 tackles, 12 QB hits and Carter; two sacks, four TFLs, 32 tackles, 11 QB hits. It makes no sense that Murphy did not make it over him.
Cortland Sutton – Zay Flowers made the Pro Bowl over Sutton whilst being a fringe WR3 on most other teams. Flowers plays with superstars Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry and is the WR1 due to lack of outside threats. Flowers has only scored three touchdowns and three fumbles on the season. Sutton is the WR1 with no other stars on the Bronco offense and Bo Nix throwing him the ball. Sutton has seven touchdowns and zero fumbles. Pro Bowl selections are supposed to mean something but when you elect players like Flowers and not Sutton you diminish the nomination.
Jordyn Brooks – When comparing linebackers there are two things you need to put into consideration: who is on a better defense in the secondary, and the d-line. The Texans have had a top defense all season and you could make the argument that Azeez Al-Shaair is not even the best linebacker on his own team. The Dolphins have a mid defense and Brooks is a gem on that defense. Shaair was selected over Brooks. Shaair had 102 tackles, one TFL, two QB hits and two interceptions. Brooks had 169 tackles, 12 TFL and four QB hits and zero interceptions.
Overall, there will never be a perfect Pro Bowl selection as the league is spoiled with quality players everywhere but these three stood out the most and did not make sense.
