This past season the Cougs lost four forwards, two of which graduated and the other two transferred. This leaves seven forwards on the roster for the Cougs, all of which are freshmen with limited minutes, except for Journey Middleborn who was able to find minutes last season. Alongside this young core that does not have many minutes, they welcomed sophomore Regan Brisendine and freshman Maycen Slater . Both coming from the University of Montana, they will bring experience. The Cougs also signed junior Lexi Lee from Oklahoma State University.
Regan Brisendine
Brisendine, who is a Montana native, has found her way to the Palouse after two years at Montana. She will be entering her junior year. Last season for the Grizzlies she played in 20 games. Starting 16 of them, she totaled 1,193 total minutes, and played all 90 minutes against Weber State in the Big Sky conference championship game.
Brisendien could not stop finding the back of the net and scored five goals this season, all of which were scored against Big Sky teams. These goals came against Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Portland State and Weber State where she found the back of the net twice. Beyond that, she assisted five goals against Southern Utah, Nevada, MSU Billings, Idaho State and Idaho. She ended the season second on the team for points with 15. This was good enough to get Brisendine named to the Second-team All-Big Sky Conference, and the Big-Sky conference All-Tournament team.
The inclusion of Brisendine will be a key addition next season for the Cougs as last season she was constantly able to find the goal whether she was the one scoring or assisting her teammates.
Maycen Slater
Slater is not far from Pullman. Hailing from Coquitlam British Columbia in Canada, She spent one season at Montana where she appeared in all 20 games and started in two. She ended the season with 643 minutes.
She was able to make an immediate impact for the Griz. As a freshman she was able to score goals, coming against MSU Billings, Idaho State and two against Weber State. She also provided an assist against MSU Billings. In the Big Sky tournament, she converted a game winning penalty kick in a shootout against Weber State. She was named to the Big-Sky All-Tournament Team, and named a Big Sky offensive player of the week.
Slater’s ability to find the back of the net will be crucial to the offensive and will be a name to look for in the goals column.
Lexi Lee
Lee, who is from Texas, arrives in Pullman from Oklahoma State University where she spent three seasons. This past season she appeared in three games, starting two of them. In her three seasons at OSU she made 24 appearances, starting in nine of them.
At OSU she was able to score three goals, with her first two coming in her freshman year against Little Rock and Iowa State. Her third goal came in her sophomore year against Nebraska. Additionally, she was able to find three assists, all coming in her sophomore year against Oral Robert, and two against Iowa State. Lee has shown that she can score goals, and find assists to help boost this Cougar offense.
