For the first non-standard edition of the Daily Evergreen of the fall semester after the week of welcome, the Evergreen editors put together a special “Sports Edition” that features a special cover of Argentina Ung, Cam Ward and Reagan Kotschau. Being one of three Power Five schools to have three programs ranked in the Top 25 polls and with Conference play starting this week, the sports edition recognizes a unique time for WSU Athletics.

Football has started their season 3-0 with a ranked win over then-No. 19 Wisconsin, with their Conference schedule beginning Saturday against No. 14 Oregon State in Pullman.

Volleyball is 10-1 and already has a massive win over then-No. 8 BYU at home and wins over then-No. 18 Baylor and No. 6 Texas on the road in three straight matches. Starting their Conference season with their rival Washington in Bohler Gym, it does not get better than that.

Soccer is 7-1 and has their only loss to Saint Mary’s (California) and is on a two-game win streak against Kansas and Seattle. Conference play starts Friday against Stanford, who is 7-0-1 on the season with wins over then-No. 10 Duke and No. 12 Santa Clara, as well as a tie with No.13 Georgetown.

Swim has an intrasquad showcase Friday and cross country and mens and women’s golf are in full swing. Lastly, tennis starts their fall season in just one short week, with all of WSU sports looking to improve on what they showed in 2022.

Next week, the newsroom has a mini-edition surrounding the theme of mental health as September is Suicide Awareness Month, so several stories featured on the Evergreen’s website and in print will surround the topic.

Looking forward through the end of the semester at other non-standard editions of the paper, the Evergreen will have one more sports edition and Breast Cancer Awareness mini-edition, another October (not yet decieded) mini-edition and a grand special edition near the end of November.
