Katy Ryan gets ready for the start of a volleyball match against Utah, Oct. 13, in Pullman, Wash.

For the second consecutive month, Academic Services named a WSU volleyball standout one of two Student-Athletes of the month for October.

Katy Ryan got the distinction after her teammate Iman Isanovic got the honor in September for her 4.0 GPA in the classroom and efficiency on the court.

Ryan holds a 3.65 cumulative GPA  while studying elementary education with a minor in human development, an area of study that requires consistent heavy workloads throughout the semester. As part of the 2022 CSC Academic All-District team, Ryan has maintained a constant presence in the classroom while dominating the court.

Since coming to Pullman, she has continued to improve on the court. A 2021 Pac-12 All-Freshman Team player and 2022 All-Pac-12 (honorable mention and U.S. Women’s Collegiate National Volleyball Team selection, her 2023 season has been statistically better.

In 23 matches, she has 2.39 kills per set while hitting .299%, an improved efficiency over 2022. Her defense has been slightly less productive than last season. In 10 of the team’s matches, she has tallied double-digit kills and had a season-high 14 against Stanford.

Her highest block total of the season was a six-block performance at UCLA.

Ryan will be back in action on the road Friday night against No. 5 Stanford along with the rest of the team.
