As the 2024-25 school year comes to an end, we honor the senior athletes who have graduated from WSU and are leaving Pullman for bigger and better things. This is the 2024-25 Daily Evergreen senior athlete farewell series.
Sage Brustad, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter from Richland, Washington, made a significant impact during her final collegiate season with Washington State University (WSU) in 2024. After transferring from Eastern Washington University (EWU), where she was a two-time All-Big Sky Second Team honoree, Brustad brought her experience and dynamic play to the Cougars.
In the 2024 season, Brustad led WSU with 343 kills, averaging 3.06 kills per set, and contributed 42 service aces, ranking second on the team. Her offensive prowess was complemented by her defensive efforts, recording 146 errors on 1,105 total attacks, leading to her .178 hitting percentage. She also added 12 assists and maintained a strong presence on the court throughout the season.
Despire only playing at WSU for one season, Brustad made a major impact, leading the team in multiple statistical categories and making her presence felt on the court.
Brustad’s standout performances included a 17-point match against the University of San Francisco, where she tallied 15 kills, 2 service aces, and 14 digs. Her consistent contributions were instrumental in WSU’s 16-12 overall record and 11-7 mark in the West Coast Conference.
Off the court, Brustad pursued a degree in early childhood education, aspiring to become a preschool teacher. Her dedication to academics and athletics exemplifies the student-athlete ideal.
Among her career highlights include being named BECU player of the week as a Cougar, earning All-WCC first team honors in 2024, and being named to the All-Big Sky conference second team in both 2022 and 2023.
