WSU embarks on new racial plan
The Daily Evergreen reported September 5, 1990, then-WSU President Sam Smith announced a plan to improve the campus’ racial atmosphere. “[The] timing is right,’ Smith said.
The plan came after a Black WSU student reported an incident to the Spokane NAACP. The incident was serious enough to attract the attention of the U.S. Department of Justice.
Lighty evacuation offers breather
It was reported September 3, 1996, a motor that moved air on the south side of Lighty Student Services Building failed, which triggered the fire alarm in the building.
