Three WSU volleyball players received all-tournament honors this past week coming off a statement performance at the Harvard Invitational. The Cougs showed up to play, sweeping Harvard in three sets and Seton Hall in four.
Outside hitter Melina Christodoulou was named to the Harvard Invitational all-tournament team, as well as middle blockers Camryn Lingenbrink and Lucie Blažková.
These three put up quite the stats at the invitational to say the least. Blažková combined for 19 kills, four errors and two assists over seven sets played, Christodoulou showed out with 20 kills on six errors and 46 total attacks and Lingenbrink made an impact with six kills and an assist on one error and 12 total attacks.
Lucie Blažková has also been awarded all team honors to the last three tournaments that the team has played at, being named to the all-tournament team three weeks in a row.
“Lucie’s made it on all three, not surprisingly, she’s absolutely crushing it” said Coach Schroeder.
Melina Christodoulou was also put into a difficult position this tournament. Melina, being used to playing in a different position, was suddenly switched to outside hitter, but she only continued to dominate despite the position change. Although she may not stand out on the stat sheet, she’s made an impact on the court.
“She can score at just about any time,” said coach Schroeder.
Although these three are not the only players to make a major impact for cougar volleyball. Maddy Joswick and Livia Ward are also mentioned by coach Schroeder in who he believes has and will play a key role in the Cougs success on the court this season.
“We’ve had a lot of contributions from all over the place, whether they made the tournament team or not,” said coach Schroeder.
Schroeder also highlighted his team’s chemistry already flourishing early into the season, pointing out the team’s ability to stay together through highs and lows on the court.
“Even when it didn’t feel like we were playing our best volleyball, we played together,” said Schroeder.
As the team looks forward to their Apple Cup matchup this week, it’s hard not to feel confident. Coming off a tournament sweep and having new players show out for the team each week, it seems likely this team will come in ready vs our in-state rival Huskies.
