In the Tindall 2025 on the Gold Mountain Olympic Course, the Cougars had many ups and downs. The men’s golf team fell short on the west side of the state finishing No. 7 in the Tindall.
A tough day one for the team set them back with a round one score of five over par. The Cougars made their way back up the leaderboard through a solid round two and three.
The team hit 47 birdies along with two eagles, but it was negated by 48 bogeys and five double bogeys. The 72-par and 7,179-yard course gave the Cougars a hard time.
After round one, the Cougars were four over par and ranked No. 12 in the tournament. After an excellent, seven under round two, they jumped up to be tied for fifth place. In round three, the team hit a modest even par putting them at seventh in the tournament.
The standout performer for the Cougars is senior, Sam Renner, who hit two eagles. Renner finished round three with five under par, hitting four birdies on the back nine. He was the only Cougar to finish with a score under the par. He jumped up 17 positions in the third-round finishing at No. 11 out of the player pool.
Renner is familiar with Gold Mountain Golf Course, as the NCAA regional tournament was held there. On the 12th hole in the third round, Renner hit onto the green from 251 yards out and secured one of his four birdies on the back nine.
Junior Ben Mulder hit five birdies along with four bogeys on his way to shoot one under par in the final round. His total score over the three rounds was two over par which tied him for No. 37 overall.
Sophomore Dylan Burcham finished with two over par in the tournament as well. His round three had many ups and downs hitting four birdies, five bogeys, and a double bogey. Burcham in the Palouse Collegiate Tournament finished first among the player pool at 15 under par but finished tied for 37th at The Tindall.
Freshman Dylan Boenning completed his second tournament as a cougar with four over in round three. His day started rocky, having four bogeys in the first seven holes. Boenning fixed his pace to hit 11 straight pars to finish his round. He tied for No. 5 for most pars in the tournament with 38.
Sophomore Tate Bruggeman who played as an individual, got a hole in one on the seventh hole on the Cascade Course of Gold Mountain. Out of the individual players, he finished tied for No. 5 at five under par.
Brigham Young University finished first place with 37 under par through three rounds. They had to lead from round one to the end of the tournament. University of Washington, who is the host of the tournament, ended up finishing third with 19 under par.
The next event for the Cougars involves them playing on Sept. 29-Oct. 1 in Arkansas for the Blessings Collegiate Invitational.
